Fania knew ignorance was not bliss. To have a better life girls and women needed to avoid unwanted pregnancy and venereal disease. Understanding the body and sexuality was essential for this. With Margaret Sanger and her sister Ethel Byrne, she co-founded the Brownsville Clinic in Brooklyn, offering information about sexuality and contraceptives. Under the Comstock Act, the three were arrested and found guilty of distributing obscene material.
