Ludwig Bemelmans (1898-1962) was a celebrated author, illustrator, painter, and bon vivant. He had an on going love affair with New York City. This Scarf shows his favorite haunts and hang outs. A lost New York, where he lived, worked and played. The first lines of the Madeline book were written at Petes Tavern in the Gramercy Park neighborhood. While the murals on the walls of the Carlyle Hotel’s Bemelmans Bar are his only artwork on display to the public.
